your mid-year reset: a guide
+ Your digital zine !!!
Below is a little guide to resetting your life, as we’re officially over 6 months into the year (!!!) and it is one of my deeply held beliefs that a well lived life is an examined one. This is an extract from the digital zine I publish every single month for paid readers.
Set the Scene
Sit down with your calendar, a notebook, and the list of goals you made in January. Non-negotiables for this step: your favourite drink (in a fancy glass), a scented candle, and a calming playlist.
Re-read your January goals
Make notes alongside them: which are complete, which underway, and which have you not started? Are there any on there that no longer feel relevant? If so, make a note of them, too. (If you didn’t write any goals out in January, you can skip this section – move straight to the Mid-Year Review checklist).
Next, it’s time to journal (!!)
Here are some prompts:
What’s one thing I did in the last 6 months that I’m proud of?
What’s one habit that would make future-me proud?
This is your ‘Mid-Year Reset’ checklist
Aka: everything you could possibly need to feel refreshed, half way through the year. The thing is, you probably won’t have time to do all of it, and YOU DON’T HAVE TO! Choose the bits that resonate, ditch the rest.
Health & Fitness
Book any overdue check-ups (dentist, doctor)
Restart or refresh workout routine
Meal prep / hydration goal reset
Finances
Review spending from last 6 months
Cancel unused subscriptions
Set a savings goal for the rest of the year (make this realistic!!!)
Home/Space
Declutter one drawer/closet/room
Deep clean reset (sheets, fridge, car)
Donate what you don’t need
Digital Life
Phone declutter (delete apps, organize photos)
Unfollow/mute accounts that make you feel small
Screen time goal (you know I love app blockers!) + turn off notifications for ALL non-essential apps
Do something meaningful
Something that marks this next phase, or era, or chapter, or whatever you want to call it, of your life. You could sage. Or light a candle. Or organise your workspace, to mark a new beginning. Or perhaps you could choose a word, or even a song, to mark the new start. It doesn’t really matter what it is: it just needs to be something that makes you feel excited and ready for the next six months of the year.
One Final Note
You are NOT allowed to feel upset/angry/guilty/any negative emotion about any of the goals which you have not yet achieved. The point isn’t to be constantly improving: it’s to regularly check in to make sure you’re living an intentional life. Because that’s the beauty of the freedom we have: we get to make choices about this life; to curate and expand and edit and create the life we want.
