Who are you?

I am someone who loves entering into worlds of my own making: daydreams, poems scrawled on napkins, Pinterest quotes and notes written in my app and screenshot to share online. I am a fiction writer, an essayist, a voracious reader.

I studied English Literature for both my undergrad (at Durham) and my postgrad (at UCL), before launching myself into a career as a freelance (read: occasional) writer and a freelance (read: full-time) social media manager. My words are featured in Cosmopolitan UK, Time Out London, The Huffington Post, Metro, Digital Spy, and more.

But what I really love is writing confessional, sprawling, diary-like entries about things such as TikTok trends (man vs. bear), hangovers in your late twenties, the concept of books as fast fashion, or the crossover between true crime and niche internet celebrities (remember those two weeks when everyone went wild for Gypsy Rose Blanchard?!). Partly why I love writing so much is that – unlike so much of the internet in 2024 – it makes room for nuance.  And I have a lot of time for that.

If the song ‘I Hate It Here’ by Taylor Swift describes the real world, then this newsletter is my equivalent of ‘secret gardens in my mind.’ But here’s the difference: I’m giving you the key.

What is Notes On?

Let’s start with a vibe check. Notes On is for the colour cherry-red. It’s for slanting morning sunlight on a notepad. It’s for paperbacks and Polaroids. Fresh flowers and fresh coffees and fresh words. It’s a love letter, from me (a reader, thinker, pop-culture obsessive and never-not-writer) to you (whoever you may be). It’s for those who think critically about frivolous things (literary references in Taylor Swift’s discography, for example); for those who notice all the tiny joys in life and want to make more of them; for those who feel too much, or simply want to find a community of similar minds.

I want us to trade ideas like secrets. I want to create a community that feels like a girl’s bathroom and a seminar all at once. Everyone is welcome, here. There’s no such thing as an uninteresting thought.

Why should I subscribe?

As much as I love writing for free, I only have a limited amount of time to do it, around working full time. Subscribing basically means I’d be able to do it more frequently, and, well, I believe that we should pay for the content we consume (especially if we really love it).

I couldn’t believe how many people love this series on TikTok. I won’t stop uploading on there, but for those who would like more of my writing (and I’ve been told you exist), it’d mean so much to me if you contributed (less than a cup of coffee!) for me to be able to do it more regularly.
